Peregrine M. Kavros, Ph.D.
Dr. Peregrine Kavros is the Director of the Schema Therapy Institute Southeast, located in Hillsborough, NC where she also maintains a private practice. As a certified Schema Therapist Advanced Trainer/Supervisor, Dr. Kavros is committed to introducing Schema Therapy to therapists throughout the SouthEastern region of the United States. Dr. Kavros' fascination with Schema Therapy evolved out of her private practice in New York City when working with clients challenged by health concerns, and complex psychological and sexual problems. She found that Schema Therapy offered her a developmental and flexible framework where she could integrate the wonderful tools that she learned through Mindfulness, CBT, Emotionally Focused Therapy, ACT, and PACT (Psychobiological Approach To Couples). Within the International Society for Schema Therapy, Dr. Kavros serves as Chair of the Ethics and Conflict Resolution Committee, and is an active member of the Quality Assurance Committee, the Training and Certification Advisory Board, and the Couples Special Interest Group.
Prior to Dr. Kavros’ move to North Carolina in 2015, she held academic appointments at Columbia University and at the New York University Langone Medical Center. She has published in peer reviewed journals and has authored book chapters. Dr. Kavros is a National Registered Health Psychologist, and certified as a Sex Therapist by AASECT (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists). She is a member of the International Society for Schema Therapy Society for Sex Educators and Therapists, The Society for Advancement of Sexual Health, The World Professional Association for Transgender Health, the North Carolina Psychological Association, and the New York State Psychological Association. As an ordained Episcopal Priest, Dr. Kavros serves as Pastoral Associate at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Hillsborough.
Dr. Kavros nurtures her contented child through the beautiful gardens and wonderful creatures on Hyacinth Farm (click here to be taken to this website), the 20 acre farm where she lives with her husband, Harry (the photographs featured on this website were either taken on the farm, or on a recent trip through Northern Greece), their rescue Theo, and a large number of chickens and guineas. She is active in the Hillsborough Garden Club, one of the primary contributors in advancing the pollination effort in the United States, the Junior League of Durham and Orange Counties, and other non-profits whose missions are driven by sustainability and food scarcity.
